Harbinger - The ultimate car

A few weeks ago driving back to work after our lunch soccer game I spotted a flat black 1969 Mustang waiting on a red light. But there was something different about this car. Unlike other cars on the road this one was rocking a large number 47 on its side door, a full roll cage was clearly visible inside, wide tires, slick dark rims, large calipers, everything about this car meant business. When the light turned green the engine growl did not disappoint. In short, this is the car Steve McQueen would drive today.
Later that weekend I happen to spot that same Mustang in a vintage car magazine ad, and it had a name, The Harbinger. The ad was for a Carlsbad based after market parts manufacturer for Mustangs called AGENT 47. The following Monday I told my work buddies about it. Given that AGENT 47 is just a few blocks away from work we decided to swing by to check it out that same day.

Great Motivational Quotes

25 Great Motivational Quotes You've Never Heard Of

As I was trawling some quotes the other day it struck me how many amazing ones there were that I’d never heard before and I thought it would be cool to collate the best for your perusal.
Now of course I realize that you may well have heard of one or two, but I genuinely hadn't (except one), so please don’t give me a hard time or point out that you knew 18 out of 20 and thus I’m a philistine and deserve a damn good thrashing.

1. “A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him” – David Brinkley

Too many people when coming under attack crumble when instead they could view that attack/criticism as a way to grow and mature and come back  stronger. Brinkley nails this aspect.

2. “Defeat is not the worst of failures. Not to have tried is the true failure” – George Edward Woodberry

You know that, right? Trying and failing sucks, but never trying because you were scared of failure sucks about a gazillion times more. Don’t fear failure.

Mueang Boran Park

Ancient Siam — Mueang Boran Park

Ancient Siam formerly known as Ancient City — Mueang Boran is a park constructed under the patronage of Lek Viriyaphant and spreading over 200 acres (0.81 km2) in the shape of Thailand.

The founder's original idea was to create a golf course with miniatures of Thailand's historically significant structures spread around the course. During his research he found most structures being severely damaged over time and decided instead of creating new miniatures to save the original structures when possible or re-creating them full size or scaled down.

After the post 10 Most unusual Parks in the world Ancient Siam is dubbed as the world's largest outdoor museum. Situated close to the Crocodile Farm in Samut Prakan province, the 320-hectare city features 116 structures of Thailand's famous monuments and architectural attractions. The grounds of Ancient Siam correspond roughly to the shape of the Kingdom, with each of the monuments lying at their correct places geographically. Some of the buildings are life-size replicas of existing or former sites, while others are scaled down.

The replicas were constructed with the assistance of experts from the National Museum to ensure historical accuracy. Outstanding works include the former Grand Palace of Ayutthaya (destroyed in the Burmese invasion of 1767), Phimai Sanctuary in Nakhon Ratchasima, and Wat Khao Phra Viharn on the Cambodian border.

Steel Dragon 2000 — A serious roller coaster that could give the world's best a run for their money. At the time of its opening in 2000, it held the world record for speed, height, and track length (the so-called "triple crown"). In two fields it has been superseded, however the world's longest roller coaster record (2479m - 8133ft) still holds a decade later which is a true testament to the quality of this ride. The name comes from the fact that 2000 was a "Year of the Dragon" in the Chinese Zodiac.

Beautiful Light Installation

Lucid Stead — Light Installation in California Desert

U.S. artist Phillip K. Smith III has created a striking and original piece of installation art called Lucid Stead in the desert near Joshua Tree, California that has been turning heads due to the graceful and beautiful way in which it interacts with its environment.

To create the striking piece, Smith took a 70-year-old homestead cabin and ripped out parts of the walls, replacing these strips with mirrors. These long mirrors, along with the mirrored windows, serve to make it look like the building isn’t all there – as if it’s deteriorating into the desert. At night, after the building has reflected the stunning desert sunset, the mirrored windows are illuminated by LED panels of different colors, giving the building a new, more alien appearance. The pieces creates the illusion that you’re observing the real-life manifestations of an impossible surreal piece of artwork.

Smith describes the artwork in his own words; “Lucid Stead is about tapping into the quiet and the pace of change of the desert. When you slow down and align yourself with the desert, the project begins to unfold before you. It reveals that it is about light and shadow, reflected light, projected light, and change.”

Computer hardware history

We all use personal computers and we all take them for granted in our everyday lives. It’s easy to forget that PCs have only been around for a couple of decades, and initially were nowhere near the powerhouses we have on our desks today.
For example, did you know that the first “portable” computer weighed 25 kg (55 lb) and cost close to $20,000, that the first laser printer was big enough to fill up most of a room, or that you basically had to build the first Apple computer yourself?
This article takes a look at the time when the computer equipment we now take for granted was invented and what it looked like back then.

The first computer mouse

The first computer mouse was invented in 1963 by Douglas Engelbart at the Stanford Research Institute. (He is also one of the inventors of hypertext.) The first mouse used two wheels positioned at a 90-degree angle to each other to keep track of the movement (see picture below). The ball mouse wasn’t invented until 1972, and the optical mouse was invented circa 1980 although it didn’t come to popular use until much later.
Douglas Engelbart never received any royalties for his invention and his patent had run out by the time the mouse became commonplace in the era of home PCs.

Athletes Among Us

Athletes Among Us by Jordan Matter

Athletes Among Us, New York photographer Jordan Matter again surprised the world with their new photo project. His previous big idea " Dancers Among Us "was a runaway success that inspired the photographer to create a series of photos, which again will turn our view of everyday reality.  "Athletes Among Us" - a project that demonstrates that even when athletes do not compete, their life is full of genuine passion and energy. "Athletes Among Us" - this project is not about sports, but about how it is important to achieve the set goals, strive for excellence and never give up. Whichever way you choose.

Few Good Quotes

::Life isn’t about keeping score.
It’s not about how many people call you
and it’s not about who you’ve dated, are dating, or haven’t dated at all.
It isn’t about who you’ve kissed,
what sport you play,
or which guy or girl likes you.
It’s not about your shoes or your hair or the color of your skin
or where you live or go to school.
In fact, it’s not about your grades, money, clothes, or colleges that accept you or not.
Life isn’t about if you have lots of friends,
or if you are alone,
and it’s not about how accepted or unaccepted you are.
 Life isn’t just about that.
But life is about who you love
and who you hurt.
It’s about how you feel about yourself.
It’s about trust, happiness, and compassion.
It’s about sticking up for your friends and replacing inner hate with love.
Life is about avoiding jealousy, overcoming ignorance, and building confidence.
It’s about what you say and what you mean.
It’s about seeing people for who they are
and not what they have.
Most of all,
it is about choosing to use your life
to touch someone else’s
in a way that could never have been achieved otherwise.
These choices are what life is about. ::

::It’s the action, not the fruit of the action, that’s important.
You have to do the right thing.
It may not be in your power, maybe not in your time, that there’ll be any.
But that doesn’t mean you stop doing the right thing.
You may never know what results come from your action.
But if you do nothing, there will be no result.::

::The best and the most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen,
nor touched…
but are felt in the heart.::
