Windows Anytime Upgrade

Yesterday, I purchased two Sony Vaio SVT 13 laptop for my client, which carries Windows Home basic 64 bit operating system. Client asked to change O.S to professional. So, for confirmation whether we can upgrade or not, i called Sony technical support. They told me that i can install the Professional version but, Sony will not give any support on O.S trouble. So i arranged two copies of Windows 7 professional 64 bit operating system's disk for these laptop. I thought that to install fresh O.S, i need to format the inbuilt Home basic. I started the procedure, but it didn't recognize hard disk. I got stuck. Two copies of  Windows 7 professional became a big headache. So instead of formatting, i went to upgrade O.S. Over there it gave me an error that you are already using Windows 7, which won't be upgrade by this way. Firstly, i thought "this is it". no way to change the O.S, than while going through that error, i came to know about a great term-

Getting started

  1. Go to a local retail store to buy a Windows Anytime Upgrade key.
  2. Download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor . It can help you determine which features and editions of Windows 7 will run on your PC.
  3. On your PC, open Windows Anytime Upgrade by clicking the Start button, typing Windows Anytime Upgrade in the search box, and then clicking Windows Anytime Upgrade in the list of results.
  4. Follow the instructions that came with your upgrade key.
Notes
  • You can use Windows Anytime Upgrade to upgrade from a 32-bit version of Windows 7 to a 32-bit version of Windows 7 and from a 64-bit version of Windows 7 to a 64-bit version of Windows 7, but you can’t upgrade from a 32-bit version of Windows 7 to a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or vice versa.
  • Windows Anytime Upgrade isn’t available in all editions of Windows 7.
