SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Alphabet Inc's Google on Tuesday announced a new "Pixel" smartphone and a suite of new consumer electronics products for the home, planting itself firmly in the hardware business and challenging Apple Inc's iPhone at the high end of the $400 billion global smartphone market.
The string of announcements - including the $649 Pixel, a smart speaker for the living room dubbed "Home," a virtual reality headset, and a new Wi-Fi router - is the clearest sign yet that Google intends to compete head-to-head with Apple, Amazon.com Inc and even manufacturers of phones using its own Android mobile operating system.
Company executives, echoing Apple's longstanding philosophy, said they were striving for tighter integration of hardware and software.
"The thinking is that if we can work on hardware and software together, we can innovate much better," Google hardware chief Rick Osterloh said in an interview with Reuters, citing a recent reorganization that united once-disparate hardware teams.
Under the new structure, the company has begun to take a much more integrated approach to things like supply chain management and design, added Mario Queiroz, a vice president of product management.
"The learnings from one product are benefiting another product," he said.
Unlike earlier Google phone efforts under the Nexus brand, the Pixel devices are designed and developed by Google from the start, although Taiwan's HTC Corp will serve as the contract manufacturer.

10 ways to work smarternot harder

The importance of hard work in our lives is undeniable. There is absolutely no substitute for hard work. But there is intense competition at work and you need to prove yourself. That means you need to combine working hard with working smart. Here are 10 tips to help you become a smart worker.
1. Maintain a to-do list: Whether in a diary, on a computer or on your smartphone, maintain a list of tasks along with their deadlines. A to-do list will help you keep a track of things to do, help you plan your workday, and allow you to multi-task as well.
2. Prioritise: Starting your day with no structure will not help you achieve your goals. At the onset, classify your tasks as must-do and good-to-do. You must channel your early-morning energy and enthusiasm towards the must-do activities.
3. Find effective approaches: There are many ways to complete a task. Before you begin, analyse these approaches. Make sure to choose the most effective and least time-consuming option to complete the task. Spending some time to analyse the task in the beginning will help you avoid an unproductive approach.

Improve Presentation Skills

10 tips for effective presentation

Corporate culture demands frequent presentations. But whether presentations are effective or not depends on the presenter’s skills. Regular practice and the 10 tips mentioned below can help you make an effective presentation.
1. Know what the audience wants: When preparing the presentation, focus on the needs of your audience. The subject and its content should be relevant to them. If you want their undivided attention, your presentation should be tailored to their requirements and expectations. You should not use a standard presentation for all types of audiences. Know the profile of attendees beforehand to understand them better.
2. Make eye contact: To build confidence and a rapport with your audience, make eye contact with them. Keep the room well lit. Do not read from the slides or cue cards. Make sure to look at the audience and smile. That is how they will connect with you
3. Focus on the key purpose: Remember the core objective and develop your presentation around it. Your speech must focus on this only. Digressing from it will not only confuse your audience but they will lose interest too. The basic purpose of the presentation, after all, is for the audience to take away the key message.

Rolls-Royce Reveals Its Electric Luxury Car of the Future

Rolls-Royce is a company with a long and celebrated heritage. Its vehicles remain a capsule to a simpler time, when cars were large and luxurious and didn’t need all the amenities we have today. But the future is now, and Rolls-Royce stopped the old-school bleeding with a concept more akin to a science fiction movie.
Celebrating BMW’s 100th birthday, the Rolls-Royce Vision 100 concept concept (internally named: 103EX) is unlike anything you could have imagined from the storied marque. It’s…strange, but in a very likable way. It doesn’t have a steering wheel, instead, passengers relax on a sofa and have their every need handled by “Eleanor,” their personal virtual assistant and chauffeur.
